Monday - "BREAKIN" the Ice
It is a common misconception, with kids these days, that Hip-Hop is simply a Genre of music. This is so far from the truth. Hip-Hop is a GLOBAL culture with its own elements in Dance, Visual Arts and Music. You can find representation of traditional Hip-Hop Culture in every corner of the globe From Russia to Chile and all points in between. Monday we will be educating our future Hip-Hoppers on the origins of this vast culture with demonstrations and Media to get them all caught up with what they've been missing.

Tuesday - "MODERN" Hieroglyphics
Just like every culture in history, Hip-hop has its OWN visual art forms. GRAFFITI or GRAFFITI WRITING is the cultures representation of culture on canvas. Questionably the first element of Hip-hop Culture, this style of art and its sub styles can be seen in every facet of commercial advertising today. With exaggerated shadowing and bubbly or block style lettering. The art form of graffiti has many sub styles such as "HandStyles", "Block Style'", and "Wild Style" just to name a few. Aerosol Art being another name for Graffiti Writing, we will have a Guest Artist from the local area demonstrating on a huge canvas outside using Spray Paint techniques and inside each student will have a chance to learn on paper the same techniques with marker and colored pencil.

Wednesday - "He's the DJ"
DJ's were never intended to just play music! In traditional Hip-Hop Culture, DJ's were the highlight of EVERY PARTY! In fact....when rapping first started, The DJ was the star of the show and a good Rapper, or MC (Master of Ceremony) was one who could use his "Gift of Gab" to keep the crowds attention on what the DJ was doing. With the first scratch of a record By The Great GRAND WIZARD THEADORE, DJ's started turning TURNTABLES into INSTRUMENTS!! In traditional Hip-Hop Culture, the techniques of a great DJ rival the techniques of any great musician. DJ SK101 will be assisting Mr. Mike in demonstrating the DJ element with some controlled HANDS ON learning!!!!

Thursday - "I'm the RAPPER"
Commercial Hip-Hop music has many "Sub-Genres". Lyricism and the ability to freely express yourself through words and utilizing vocabulary in a poetic way IS the most popular element to be birthed from the core elements of Hip-Hop Culture. Hip-Hop is the MOST popular musical genre in the modern era. There are many popular artists who have strayed from the core beliefs of PEACE, LOVE, UNITY and Having FUN. But, there is still hope for the future. In the more than 25 years of practicing traditional Hip-Hop Culture, Mr. Mike has mainly done 2 things, Breakin and MCeeing!! He will be instructing students on this day about rhyme formulation, importance of vocabulary use and word play and the use of modern reference. Kids will learn how to use a rhyming thesaurus. We would like to take no credit for the late night living room shows that are sure to follow!

Friday - "The REAL Get Down"
BREAKIN aka BREAK DANCING is the First and ONLY traditional dance of HIP-HOP Culture! In the 80's it was wiped from the commercial landscape but continued on its own terms underground for several years. As many believe breakin went "Out of style" it is actually quite the contrary. As of this year, Breakin or Break Dancing will be an event in the 2018 YOUTH OLYMPICS represented by 75 different countries. Did you ever think you'd see Hip-Hop culture in the OLYMPICS? You should be proud, Hip-Hop culture was birthed right here in America. With over 20 years of teaching the mechanics and Sub Culture that is Breakin, Mr. Mike will be teaching all about Breakin History, the movement and how your young one could use Hip-Hop Culture to become an Olympian. He may even have a special guest of OLYMPIC PROPORTIONS you won't want to miss!!!!
